We are ARTS341 Intermediate Art and Ecology (the food class) from the University of New Mexico's Art and Ecology course, working in collaboration with SeedBroadcast at the Santa Fe Art Institute. For a final public participation project, we made paper cards embedded with multi-colored yarrow seeds. We chose yarrow seeds because they are a native to New Mexico, drought resistant, quick-germinating, are edible and blooming. We are engaging participants at schools and outdoor events in answering the question, "What do you want to see grow in your life?" This can be a word, drawing, poem, anything - just a response written/drawn on the yarrow seed paper.
The entire process, the making of the cards and the planting, is documented via map, audio, time-lapse. and still photography and displayed in a gallery at the Santa Fe Art Institute with a courtyard display of pots planted with seed paper. This website, growyourstory.weebly.com, will also be updated with all of our processes along the way.
Please tell us what you would like to grow and we will do our best to grow it with you. All submitted stories will be displayed on our website to share with the world.
